After years in civil engineering and project management, I know what it’s like to be capable and committed, yet underestimated and overlooked. My Wake-Up Call
I spent more than two decades in civil engineering — thriving on big responsibilities, tight deadlines, and complex problems. But behind the scenes, I was quietly shrinking myself to fit in. I was the team player, the high-achiever, the over-preparer, the one who always got things done without making a fuss. I avoided rocking the boat, convinced that if I just worked harder, and kept my head down, someone would eventually notice and reward me for my efforts. And yet, they didn’t. It took years (and some messy breakdowns I realized only in hindsight were textbook signs of burnout) before I realized the system wasn’t going to change just because I played nice.
So, I stopped trying to fit in — and started figuring out how to lead, advocate, and succeed on my own terms. Now, I help other women do the same.
